High-Performance Screw Pump Solutions
Changyu’s G-type screw pump is a rotary positive displacement pump, commonly known as a single-screw pump or mono-pump, which conveys the medium through the interaction of an eccentric screw and a sleeve. Its core structure consists of an internal screw (rotor) with a large lead and high tooth height, and an external screw (stator) with a double-helix surface that meshes with the rotor’s helical grooves.
This design ensures that, during operation, the G-type screw pump maintains an appropriate clearance between the screws and between the screws and the sleeve walls, forming a continuous sealed chamber that facilitates the conveyance of liquids. It is particularly well-suited for handling high-viscosity fluids containing particles or fibres, and is widely used in the environmental protection, petroleum, and food industries.

What is a screw pump?
A screw pump is a positive-displacement pump that uses one or more precision-machined screws to transfer fluid through sealed cavities formed between the screw threads and the pump casing. As the screws rotate, fluid is conveyed smoothly from the suction port to the discharge port, producing a continuous, low-pulsation flow. At Bomba Changyu, screw pumps are engineered for handling high-viscosity, abrasive, and shear-sensitive media with reliable volumetric efficiency.
Due to their self-priming capability, stable pressure characteristics, and gentle fluid handling, Bomba Changyu screw pumps are widely used in chemical processing, wastewater treatment, petroleum transfer, marine applications, and industrial manufacturing. Compared with centrifugal pumps, screw pumps maintain consistent performance when transporting viscous liquids and provide accurate flow control under varying operating conditions.
How do screw pumps work?
A screw pump, also known as a progressive cavity pump or Archimedes screw pump in certain applications, operates on the principle of positive displacement fluid transfer. In a G-type screw pump, the rotating screw (rotor) moves inside a stator, creating a series of sealed cavities that continuously transport fluid from the suction side to the discharge side. Unlike centrifugal pumps, screw pumps rely on cavity movement rather than kinetic energy to move liquids.
Step 1: Fluid Intake Through Vacuum Formation
As the screw rotates, the volume of the sealed cavity near the inlet gradually increases. This expansion creates a low-pressure zone (vacuum effect) that draws liquid into the pump chamber without requiring external priming under normal operating conditions.
Step 2: Continuous Cavity Transfer
Once the fluid enters the sealed cavity, the rotation of the screw causes the cavity to move axially along the pump body. The fluid becomes trapped within these cavities and is transported smoothly toward the discharge end. This process ensures a continuous, low-pulsation flow, making screw pumps suitable for viscous and shear-sensitive media.
Step 3: Fluid Compression and Discharge
As the cavity approaches the outlet, its volume gradually decreases. The reduction in cavity volume compresses the fluid and forces it toward the discharge port, generating the required delivery pressure. Because the fluid is conveyed in enclosed chambers, backflow is minimized and volumetric efficiency remains high.

Working Principle Summary
En Bomba Changyu, screw pumps are designed around the positive displacement principle, where rotating screws create and move sealed cavities that continuously transfer fluid from inlet to outlet. The pump flow rate is directly proportional to rotational speed and remains largely unaffected by discharge pressure. This design enables stable flow, accurate metering, self-priming capability, and efficient handling of high-viscosity, abrasive, and solid-containing fluids across a wide range of industrial applications.
