Antecedentes do projeto
This project was for the process water circulation system of a large corn processing company in Jilin, China. The process section mainly involves the transport of softened water and circulating cooling water, with the pump providing continuous water circulation within the system.
For this type of application, the pumped media are relatively straightforward. Pump selection mainly depends on the required flow rate and head, as well as water temperature, operating conditions, and site piping conditions. An undersized pump may not meet the circulation requirements, while an oversized pump can operate away from its actual operating point without providing a practical benefit.
Therefore, the main selection considerations for this project were the required circulation flow, system head, and suitability of the pump for continuous operation.

The final recommendation was a CYW horizontal centrifugal water pump.

Based on the pumped media and process requirements, Bomba Changyu supplied a CYW horizontal centrifugal water pump for the project.
The CYW series is mainly designed for clean water and liquids with physical and chemical properties similar to clean water. It can also be used for industrial water supply and drainage, production processes, air-conditioning circulating cooling water, and other applications involving water-like liquids.

Why CYW Was Selected
CYW is a conventional clean-water centrifugal pump. The softened water and circulating cooling water in this project do not contain significant solid particles and do not require special corrosion-resistant treatment. There was therefore no need to use a pump specifically designed for high-solid-content or highly corrosive media. For a system mainly used for continuous water circulation, a horizontal centrifugal pump suitable for water-based media is a direct choice.
A process water circulation system also typically operates for extended periods, so pump selection should not be based only on maximum flow rate. The actual operating point should remain within a suitable range of the pump performance curve, while system piping resistance and standby requirements should also be considered. The CYW series covers a relatively broad range of flow rates and heads, allowing the pump model to be matched to different circulation water systems.
If the site water quality, temperature, or pressure conditions change, the pump body and wetted-part materials also need to be reviewed. CYW can be configured with materials including HT250, QT450-12, C95200 bronze, SS304, and SS316, depending on the actual operating conditions.
Installation and Commissioning
After the equipment arrived at the site, the pump unit and related piping connections were installed. The installation period was 3 days.
After installation, the pump was test-run and commissioned for 1 day. The commissioning process mainly included checking pump operation, inlet and outlet connections, and the operating condition of the circulating water system. After confirming that the equipment was properly matched with the site system, the pump was put into operation.
Engineer’s Pump Selection Advice
For a Process Water Circulation Pump or a Cooling Water Pump, the first step in pump selection is to determine the actual circulation flow rate. The required head should then be calculated based on the static head and piping friction losses. If the system has multiple water-use points, the maximum flow required when multiple points operate simultaneously should also be considered rather than selecting the pump simply according to the main pipe diameter.
Water temperature and water quality should also be confirmed before selecting the pump. Although softened water is generally considered a conventional water medium, its actual water quality can vary depending on the treatment process. For systems that operate continuously, the pump’s operating conditions, standby pump arrangement, and available maintenance space should also be considered.
If the operating conditions are not yet fully confirmed, it is recommended to provide the basic parameters, including flow rate, head, medium temperature, system pressure, and operating mode. Once the operating conditions are clear, the appropriate pump model, motor power, and material configuration can be determined.
