What is an Industrial Hose Pump?

The pumping principle is based on mechanical compression. The trapped fluid is then pushed toward the discharge port with a fixed displacement per revolution, providing stable, accurate, and pulsation-controlled flow. Compared with many conventional industrial pumps, an Industrial Hose Pump offers outstanding self-priming capability of up to 9.5 meters, can run dry without damage, and delivers discharge pressures up to 1.6 MPa (16 bar). Its unique pumping mechanism also enables accurate metering regardless of discharge pressure, making it suitable for dosing chemicals, transferring abrasive mining slurry, pumping wastewater sludge, conveying ceramic slurry, handling food-grade materials, and transporting corrosive chemical solutions.

How Does a Hose Pump Work?

The working principle of an Industrial Hose Pump is based on positive displacement and peristaltic compression. As the rotor rotates, two rollers positioned 180° apart alternately compress and release the reinforced hose. This continuous compression creates a vacuum that draws fluid into the hose and then pushes it toward the discharge port at a constant flow rate. Since the pumped medium only contacts the inner surface of the hose, there are no seals, valves, or impellers exposed to the fluid, ensuring reliable operation with abrasive, corrosive, high-viscosity, and shear-sensitive materials.

Step 1 – Rotor Compression Creates Powerful Suction

The drive system rotates the rotor, causing the first roller to compress the flexible hose against the pump housing. As the roller moves forward, the hose immediately returns to its original shape due to its elasticity, creating a strong vacuum at the suction side. This vacuum draws the process fluid into the hose without requiring external priming. With a self-priming capability of up to 9.5 meters, the pump can start quickly even under dry suction conditions.

Step 2 – Fluid Is Continuously Conveyed

Once the fluid enters the hose, the second roller continues compressing the hose and mechanically pushes the trapped fluid toward the discharge outlet. Each rotor revolution transfers a fixed volume of liquid, providing stable flow with excellent metering accuracy. The pumping capacity remains largely independent of discharge pressure, making the pump suitable for dosing, transfer, and continuous process applications.

Step 3 – Continuous Sealing Prevents Backflow

As one roller approaches the discharge end and releases the hose, the second roller has already begun compressing another section of the hose. The two rollers maintain continuous sealing inside the hose, effectively preventing internal leakage and backflow.
