دراسة حالة: مضخة للمياه منزوعة الأيونات في مصنع بوليمر عالي النقاء

نظرة عامة على المشروع

This project draws on a large, advanced polymer manufacturing base in the Asia-Pacific region. The facility includes a complete circulating water system and a demineralized water production section. The system is used to support polymerization reactions, cooling heat exchange, and high-purity water supply, where extremely strict requirements are placed on transport stability, cleanliness, and zero-leakage safety.

Under continuous production conditions, both the circulating water system and the demineralized water system operate under long-term high load. As the core power unit, the pump directly determines the stability of the entire production line.

For this reason, selecting a reliable pump for demineralized water and circulating water loops became a critical engineering decision.

Customer Problems

During the initial operation phase, the customer encountered several typical issues:

  • In the circulating water system, traditional mechanical seal pumps posed a slight risk of leakage. Long-term operation caused seal wear, leading to frequent maintenance and reduced system continuity.
  • In the demineralized water section, purity requirements were extremely high, but some pump bodies showed trace metal ion leaching, which potentially affected water quality stability.
  • The system required continuous operation, but some pumps showed instability under temperature fluctuations and frequent start-stop conditions.
  • Short spare part replacement cycles and long downtime during maintenance increased overall operational costs.

These issues highlighted the need for a more stable and truly seal-less chemical pump solution.

Engineering Diagnosis

إن مضخة تشانغيو engineering team conducted multiple rounds of communication and on-site video analysis with the project team. Based on previous experience with similar systems, we carried out a full diagnostic review of both circulating water and demineralized water systems.

Key analysis dimensions included:

  • Media characteristics: circulating water contains trace impurities and corrosion inhibitors; demineralized water is high-purity and low-conductivity
  • Temperature & pressure fluctuations: periodic thermal rise and pressure surges exist in the system
  • Pump operating condition: mechanical seal wear and shaft seal leakage were the main failure sources
  • Operation mode: long-term continuous operation combined with frequent start-stop cycles

Through data acquisition and performance curve analysis, the root causes were confirmed as:

“Dynamic seal failure + insufficient corrosion resistance + unstable operating performance.”

Proposed Solution

Based on the findings, we recommended and implemented a solution centered on the Changyu CYC Series heavy-duty stainless steel magnetic drive pump.

1. “Static sealing replaces dynamic sealing” – eliminating leakage

The CYC series API 685 magnetic drive pump adopts a fully sealed, zero-leakage design. Using a permanent magnetic coupling, torque is transmitted through a containment shell to the impeller, completely eliminating traditional dynamic seals.

This achieves true zero-leakage transfer, which is critical for demineralized water systems, preventing contamination and leakage risks at the source.

2. Material upgrade for corrosion resistance and purity

Considering chemical corrosion in circulating water and strict purity requirements in demineralized water, we selected customizable 316L stainless steel for the CYC series.

316L stainless steel provides excellent corrosion resistance and extremely low metal ion release, fully meeting the strict purity standards of demineralized water systems and ensuring long-term water quality stability.

3. Intelligent control for energy efficiency

A high-performance variable frequency drive (VFD) system was integrated with the CYC magnetic drive pump.

By monitoring pipeline pressure and flow in real time, pump speed is automatically adjusted, replacing traditional valve throttling control. This eliminates throttling losses and keeps the pump operating in its optimal efficiency range, significantly improving overall energy savings.

4. Heavy-duty design for long-term continuous operation

The CYC series is designed strictly according to API 685 standards, classifying it as a heavy-duty magnetic drive pump.

Its robust casing structure, high-capacity bearing system, and optimized flow channel ensure stable performance under continuous high-load operation, significantly extending maintenance intervals.

Engineering Recommendations from Changyu Pump

  • 1. Proper selection is critical
    • For circulating water and demineralized water systems, priority should be given to sealless solutions such as magnetic drive pumps. Accurate media data must be provided for precise hydraulic and material selection.
  • 2. Focus on lifecycle cost
    • Do not focus only on initial purchase cost. Energy consumption, maintenance frequency, spare parts, and downtime losses must all be considered. CYC series pumps often deliver significantly lower total cost of ownership (TCO).
  • 3. Adopt intelligent control
    • For variable-load systems, VFD control is strongly recommended. It enables energy savings and predictive maintenance through real-time monitoring of vibration and temperature.
  • 4. Installation quality matters
    • Magnetic drive pumps are sensitive to alignment and pipeline stress. Proper installation and commissioning procedures must be strictly followed.
