Contexte du projet
This project was located in Congo and involved slurry transfer in the leaching section of a nonferrous metal mine. Unlike clean-liquid applications, the slurry contained both acidic components and solid particles. During operation, the pump’s wetted parts had to withstand chemical corrosion from the acidic medium as well as mechanical wear caused by solid particles passing through the flow passages.
For this type of application, selecting a conventional chemical liquid pump alone is not sufficient. Focusing only on corrosion resistance may overlook particle-related wear, while focusing only on wear resistance requires careful verification of material compatibility with the acidic medium. Therefore, the key consideration for this project was selecting suitable pump and wetted-part materials according to the characteristics of the pumped medium.
Based on these operating conditions, Changyu supplied a UHB Series Acidic Media Slurry Pump for acidic slurry transfer.
Solution de Changyu
For the acidic slurry transfer requirements of this project, Changyu selected a UHB Series corrosion-resistant slurry pump. Based on the case operating conditions, the pump was configured for a flow rate of 80 m³/h and a head of 35 m, using a 100UHB pump with a 22 kW motor at 2900 r/min.
The pump configuration for this project was as follows:
| Configuration Item | Project Configuration |
| Type de pompe | UHB Corrosion-Resistant Slurry Pump |
| Specific Model | 100UHB |
| Fluide pompé | Acidic slurry containing solid particles |
| Débit de conception | 80 m³/h |
| Hauteur manométrique de conception | 35 m |
| Puissance du moteur | 22 kW |
| Vitesse | 2900 r/min |
| Material Solution | UHMW-PE polymer lining |
| Application | Leaching section |
The UHB Series covers a flow range of 3–2600 m³/h, a head range of 5–100 m, motor power from 0.75–300 kW, and a medium temperature range of -20°C to 90°C. Customized material configurations are also available.

Remarque : The above product parameters are provided for case presentation and selection reference. Performance parameters vary according to pump model and operating conditions. The final pump model, flow rate, head, motor power, and material configuration should be determined according to the specific pumped medium and site conditions. For accurate selection, contact Changyu engineers with your operating parameters.
Why Changyu Recommended the UHB Series
The main challenge in this project was that the pumped medium contained both acidic components and solid particles.
The UHB Series uses a UHMW-PE lining structure to address the combined requirements of corrosion resistance and wear resistance when handling corrosive slurries. This makes it suitable for applications where chemical corrosion and particle abrasion occur at the same time.
Unlike pumps mainly designed for clean liquids, the UHB Series uses a semi-open impeller structure suitable for conveying corrosive slurry containing solid particles.
Leaching systems can also vary considerably in process capacity, resulting in different flow and head requirements. The Changyu UHB Series covers multiple specifications, allowing pump selection for applications ranging from lower-flow conditions to high-volume slurry transfer. Its overall range covers 3–2600 m³/h in flow and 5–100 m in head.

Changyu Engineer’s Selection Recommendations
For an acidic slurry transfer project, the following parameters should be provided during pump inquiry and selection.
1. Confirm the Required Flow Rate and Head
Flow rate and head are the basic parameters for selecting a centrifugal pump.
For example, the reference duty point in this project was 80 m³/h at 35 m head. If the actual system flow increases to 100 m³/h or the system head changes, the pump model and motor power should be rechecked rather than directly applying the original configuration.
2. Provide Complete Medium Information
Simply describing the medium as “acidic slurry” is not sufficient for material selection.
Engineers should also know:
- Specific acid type
- Acid concentration
- Slurry temperature
- Teneur en solides
- Solid particle size
- Particle hardness
- Slurry density
These parameters directly affect the selection of pump materials, structure, and model.
3. Consider Both Corrosion and Wear
When the medium contains both acidic components and mineral particles, pump material selection should not be based on acid concentration alone. The actual conditions require evaluation of both chemical corrosion and particle abrasion to determine the appropriate lining and wetted-part configuration.
This is particularly important when selecting an Acid Resistant Slurry Pump or comparing different Anti Acid Slurry Pumps for mineral processing applications.
4. Do Not Select the Pump Based Only on Pipe Size
Pipe diameter can be used as a reference for pump selection, but it cannot replace flow and head calculations. The final pump model should be determined based on system resistance, pipeline length, static head, valves, elbows, and other actual operating conditions.
Installation and Commissioning
The project was installed in May 2025. For slurry pump installation, in addition to installing the pump itself, the inlet and outlet piping connections, foundation fixing, coupling alignment, motor rotation direction, sealing, and lubrication conditions should be checked.
For a Mining Slurry Pump used in a leaching section, these installation checks are important for ensuring that the equipment operates under the intended conditions.
On-Site Operation of Acidic Media Slurry Pumps

Conclusion
Acidic slurry transfer places more demanding requirements on pumps than conventional acid-liquid transfer. The acidic components create corrosion concerns, while solid particles cause continuous wear. The pump materials and structure therefore need to accommodate both conditions.
For this project, Changyu supplied a UHB Series Acidic Media Slurry Pump for acidic slurry transfer in the leaching section of a nonferrous metal mine in Congo. The pump was configured according to the required flow rate, head, and medium characteristics.
The UHB Series is suitable for acids, alkalis, corrosive slurries, and slurry containing solid particles. It covers a flow range of 3–2600 m³/h and a head range of 5–100 m, allowing different pump specifications to be selected for different slurry transfer requirements.
For projects involving acidic slurry, solid-containing slurry, or hydrometallurgical conveying, provide the actual flow rate, head, medium composition, solids content, and particle size to Changyu engineers. The engineering team can then determine the appropriate pump model and material configuration according to the specific operating conditions.
