Introduction

Pompe Changyu’s UHB Series Horizontal Chemical Slurry Pump is a cantilevered, single-stage, single-suction centrifugal pump designed and developed specifically for conveying corrosive media containing fine particles. The pump is constructed with a steel lining coated with ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE), a next-generation engineering plastic for pumps that offers outstanding wear resistance, impact resistance (particularly at low temperatures), creep resistance (resistance to environmental stress cracking), and excellent corrosion resistance, making it superior to all other plastics.

The structural design features a cantilevered, front-opening configuration, and the impeller is semi-open (without a front cover plate), which enhances flow passage within the flow path. This allows particles and impurities in the medium to pass through the pump chamber quickly without causing blockages. The shaft seal consists of a K-type fluororubber sealing ring with an external cooling water jacket, meeting both corrosion and wear resistance requirements. Alternatively, our proprietary double-face mechanical seal can be used. (Additionally, fluoroplastic linings can be incorporated to meet specific customer requirements for corrosion or temperature resistance, and non-standard models with custom flow rates and heads can be manufactured.)

The UHB series chemical slurry pump is driven by an electric motor, which uses a coupling to drive the pump shaft and semi-open impeller to rotate at high speed. Under the action of centrifugal force, the corrosive slurry containing particles at the inlet is continuously drawn into the center of the impeller and flung into the volute passage. During this flow, kinetic energy is gradually converted into pressure energy, thereby achieving stable and continuous conveyance. The steel-lined UHMW-PE construction effectively resists corrosion and wear from the medium, enabling long-term, stable operation even under conditions involving particulate matter.

The UHB series chemical slurry pump consists of several key components, including the pump casing, impeller, pump shaft, bearing assembly, and sealing system. The pump casing features a corrosion-resistant lining; the impeller is responsible for transferring energy to the fluid; the pump shaft and bearing system ensure stable power transmission and operational precision; and the sealing system is designed to prevent fluid leakage and accommodate various operating conditions.

The pump casing features a steel-lined ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) structure with a lining thickness of 8–20 mm. This pump utilizes patented plastic-lining technology, offering advantages over similar pumps, including excellent resistance to thermal deformation, crack resistance, prevention of lining peeling, and high operating temperature tolerance.

Double-sided Water-Cooled Mechanical Seal

Features of our proprietary seals:

The K-type dynamic seal primarily consists of a secondary impeller (or secondary vane) and a standstill seal (rubber oil seal). During operation, the centrifugal force generated by the rotation of the secondary impeller (or secondary vane) creates a negative pressure in the seal chamber, thereby preventing liquid leakage outward; at this point, the standstill seal is inactive.

The lip of the rubber oil seal loosens due to the negative pressure, creating a certain gap with the shaft sleeve, which reduces wear between them and extends service life. When the unit is shut down, as the auxiliary impeller (or auxiliary vane) stops rotating, the seal chamber transitions from negative to positive pressure, and the shutdown seal begins to function. Under pressure, the lip of the rubber oil seal tightly wraps around the shaft sleeve, thereby achieving the sealing objective. If cooling water is allowed to enter the medium, a K-type dynamic seal with cooling water can be selected, or an external cooling water system can be added to extend the service life of the oil seal. The oil seal of this type is made of fluororubber and is primarily suitable for conveying corrosive media such as slurries containing solid particles and sewage containing impurities (the cooling water used for the K-type dynamic seal with cooling water must be clean tap water, with a pressure preferably within 0.05 MPa).
