Fournisseur de pompe d'alimentation pour filtre-presse : cinq vérifications avant l'achat

To assess a filter press feed pump supplier, ask each company to use the same slurry and filter cycle data to answer five questions:
What flow and pressure are needed at the beginning and end of the cycle?
Why are the wetted materials suitable?
Which seal is specified?
Will the suction installation work?
What exactly is included in the quote?
Our UHFM-HJ, UHB, and BFQ pumps should each be considered only where the actual duty fits.

When you search for “suppliers of feed pumps for filter presses,” you’ve typically already determined that you need a feed pump and are comparing different suppliers. Sending a request for quotation that includes only “flow rate, head, and price” carries certain risks. From chamber filling to filter cake compaction, both flow rate and pressure fluctuate. The slurry may also cause corrosion and wear on pump components that come into contact with it. A qualified supplier should explain how the pump meets the requirements of the entire cycle and clarify any specific conditions that cannot yet be confirmed.

1. Can a filter press feed pump supplier cover the complete cycle?

VérificationAnswer to request from the supplierPourquoi c'est important

Materials and sealsWetted materials, seal arrangement, and selection basisAddresses slurry chemistry and failure risks
Suction installationTank level, piping, and valve arrangementAddresses suction problems and water hammer

Ask the supplier to state initial filling flow, the operating range as the cake forms, and the required final pressure, with the selection basis for each. A single rated point, such as “100 m³/h at 80 m head,” does not establish whether the press fills fast enough or reaches the required final pressure. Check the maximum pressure allowed by the press and piping as well, and ensure the control setting cannot exceed equipment ratings.

For a centrifugal pump, check shaft power and motor margin at the actual slurry density and on the relevant part of its pump curve. For an AODD pump, ask for flow and air consumption at the specified backpressure. Maximum figures in two product summaries may use different conditions; subtracting their maximum flows does not establish which pump is better for your duty.

2. Why do the wetted materials suit this slurry?

Give the supplier chemical constituents and concentrations, not just “acidic slurry.” At the same pH, chloride ions, hydrofluoric acid, solvents, or oxidizing components can change material selection. State whether solids content is by weight or by volume, and provide particle size, shape, hardness, and temperature. Ask for the material of each relevant component: casing, impeller, casing cover, lining, and seal-contact parts. “Corrosion- and abrasion-resistant pump” is not a material specification.

Notre UHFM-HJ series can be configured with UHMWPE, fluoroplastics, polyurethane, or corrosion-resistant metals. Each option has its own chemical, temperature, and particle-wear limits. Confirm that the final model, materials, and spare-part names match the drawing and bill of materials. If a supplier cannot explain its material choice, a low purchase price may shift wear and downtime costs to the operator.

3. How were the pump construction and seal selected?

UHFM-I single-stage and UHFM-II two-stage arrangements address different pressure duties. We offer several pressure classes, but the word “high pressure” alone does not justify a two-stage pump, and the highest series rating is not a guarantee for every model. Request the exact model, operating points, possible low-flow condition near the end of the cycle, and their relationship to the press’s permitted pressure.

The seal needs the same level of detail. UHFM-HJ has HJ1 single mechanical seal and HJ2 cartridge double mechanical seal arrangements. The choice depends on solids, crystallization, acceptable leakage, available flushing water, and shutdown practices. A purchase specification should state seal type, wetted materials, flushing requirements, spares, and operating limits. “Double mechanical seal” by itself does not prove that every leakage problem has been solved.

4. Does the suction and installation arrangement work?

Many feed problems begin on the suction side. Tell the supplier the tank level relative to the pump centerline, whether the tank is under vacuum, suction pipe diameter and length, bends, valves, strainers, and whether the slurry settles. For our UHFM range, flooded suction from an elevated tank is the preferred arrangement. A low-level tank with a foot valve and suction lift should not simply be assumed suitable. If the site requires suction lift, ask for an assessment before ordering rather than testing the arrangement only after delivery.

Also ask how the piping will be independently supported, whether a discharge check valve is needed, and how shutdown water hammer will be handled. The installation drawing and startup sequence should be part of the deliverables, not only points discussed in a sales conversation.

5. Can you verify the quotation and application evidence?

A comparable quotation should identify the pump model, wetted materials, seal, motor power and electrical supply, connections, spares, controls or instruments, packing and shipping terms, lead time, and technical documents. For a custom project, distinguish standard supply from separately priced items. Agree on acceptance methods in advance: a clean-water factory test, material-document review, or an additional test for a special medium. A clean-water test alone does not prove field performance with a dense slurry.

If a supplier provides installation photos or an application example, verify the actual model, medium, and duty. A photo can show that equipment was installed or operated; it cannot, on its own, establish service life, energy savings, or filter cake moisture. For any claimed improvement figure, request the measurement period and comparison baseline.

Information you can send with an inquiry

Provide the filter press model, plate or chamber details, chamber volume, maximum permitted feed pressure, target filling time, and desired final pressure. Add the slurry name, chemical constituents and concentrations, temperature, density, viscosity, basis of solids content, maximum particle size, and settling behavior. Attach tank level, suction and discharge pipe lengths, elevation changes, valve arrangement, and available electrical or compressed-air supply. For a replacement pump, add the old model, recorded pressure and flow, photos of failed parts, and actual maintenance interval.

Ask the supplier to return three conclusions: the recommended pump type and model; the operating range and risks outside it; and a list of materials, seal, controls, and wear parts. A preliminary selection is possible when some information is missing, but the unconfirmed items should be stated so an estimate is not mistaken for a guarantee.

Which ChangYu pumps may be shortlisted?

We offer UHFM-I single-stage and UHFM-II two-stage centrifugal filter press pumps, along with the BFQ air-operated double-diaphragm pump. For a corrosive and abrasive slurry needing substantial initial filling flow, UHFM-HJ may be a candidate. For intermittent operation, lower flow, or different suction requirements, BFQ may be worth comparing. The exact model, medium, and filter cycle determine suitability.

Notre Série UHB is another corrosion- and abrasion-resistant centrifugal slurry pump that can be considered for filter press feeding. A UHB-ZK application in a lead-zinc smelting filter press system is one example. Ask us to explain the operating range of each series using the same project conditions. Results from an application example should not be treated as guaranteed results for a new project.

The value of a filter press feed pump supplier is in explaining pressure, flow, materials, suction, and maintenance clearly. Bring a complete duty description to ChangYu or another supplier. The resulting proposals will be easier to compare, and unsupported promises will be easier to spot.

FAQ

What information should I send a filter press feed pump supplier?

Send chamber volume, target filling time, maximum permitted and desired final feed pressures, and the pressure and flow history if this is a replacement. Include slurry chemistry, concentration basis, density, viscosity, particle size, temperature, and settling behavior. Add tank level, suction and discharge piping, valves, elevation, and available power or compressed air.

How can I tell whether a proposed pump covers the whole filter press cycle?

Ask for the selected model’s operating points during initial filling and near final pressure, not just one rated flow and head. Compare those points with the pump curve, press pressure limit, motor margin at actual slurry density, and expected low-flow operation. If data are missing, the supplier should state what remains unverified.

What should a supplier specify about wetted materials?

Request the material of the casing or lining, impeller, cover, and seal-contact parts, plus the reasons for each choice. The answer should address the liquid’s chemicals and temperature as well as particle size, hardness, and concentration. A general “corrosion-resistant” or “abrasion-resistant” label is not enough to compare quotations.

How do I choose between HJ1 and HJ2 seals on an UHFM-HJ pump?

Ask for a seal recommendation tied to solids loading, crystallization, leakage limits, available flushing water, and shutdown practice. HJ1 is a single mechanical seal arrangement; HJ2 is a cartridge double mechanical seal arrangement. Specify the chosen seal, materials, flushing needs, and spare parts in the quote rather than treating either arrangement as universally suitable.

Why should a supplier review suction piping and shutdown water hammer?

Poor suction can cause cavitation or loss of feed even when the pump model appears to meet the duty. For our UHFM range, we prefer flooded suction from an elevated tank; a low tank with a foot valve and suction lift needs explicit assessment. The supplier should also review discharge valve sequence, check valve needs, pipe support, and pressure transients on shutdown.

Does a series maximum rating or clean-water test prove slurry performance?

No. A series maximum may apply to a different model or test condition, and a clean-water factory test does not reproduce a dense, abrasive slurry. Request the exact model’s operating range, test scope, acceptance criteria, and any assumptions about slurry properties. Separate verified results from estimates in the purchase specification.

What evidence should I request for a supplier’s case study or service-life claim?

Ask for the installed model, medium, duty point, operating hours, maintenance history, and measurement period. A project photograph can show an installation, but it cannot establish pump life, energy savings, or cake moisture by itself. For any improvement claim, request the baseline and the method used to measure the result.
